This Day in June - Poem
Title: This Day in June

Genre: Fiction
This Day in June is a book about the LGBT pride celebration held during June. Gayle E.
Pitman includes two line rhymes that can be used in a lesson for students to
find. She also includes explanations at the end of the book to give the reader
more understanding about the LGBT community and the celebration.
The illustrations by Kristyna Litten
are bright and colorful. She makes the illustration very celebratory to flow
with the text. There are pride rainbows throughout the book to show even more
pride. Diversity is even added within the types of characters Kristyna
includes. The characters have more flowing features to them instead of stiff
movements to make the reader feel more of the celebration.

I would include this
in learning about more cultural celebrations in America. Good book to include
when having a student who is transgender or parents who are in the LGBT
community.
For a student with a
disability, I would make sure they understood the word choices that Gayle
Pitman wrote. I would also include picture words for ways to celebrate an event
or holiday.
