The Day My Mom Came to Kindergarten is a cute story of a little girl inviting her mom to come to her kindergarten class with her because her mom is sad about her growing up. The little girl quickly realizes mom does not know the rules to the class when her mom barged in front of all the students. The little girl is shocked by how her mom is behaving in class and forgetting her manners. She learns that some things are not for adults. She also is reminded by the teacher that it takes a while to get comfortable with new things.
The illustrations by Mike Lowery a very kid friendly. The characters are unique and show emotions making the reader understand the way the class feels when mom is not acting the way she should in class. He uses lots of color and bold lines throughout his illustrations. Content Area and Grade: First Day - Kindergarten
I would read this book to a kindergarten class on their first day to help with jitters. It is a great book that shows the way students should act in class, but puts a twist on it because the mom is the one misbehaving. I would have the students retell the story line in order of the events.
For an ELL student I would make sure they understood some key words in the book, since the book uses some English slang. For the activity, I would let the student use pictures with words under them in their native language.

This book looks super cute and like a good read! I plan on adding it to my list of books.
