Max goes to Mars is a story about a dog going on a space exploration. Jeffery Bennett includes fun facts on each page about space. Max and his owner Tori are best friends and go on adventures when she gets a phone call that they are wanting a dog to go along on the first trip to Mars. Max will join astronauts on the first mission to Mars. Tori took Max to the science museum and Max explores for microscopic life. Tori says goodbye as Max heads to space. Read the book to find out more about the adventure of Max and Mars. 

Alan Okamoto uses painting to convey technical details and knowledge to readers. The illustrations are full of discovery of science and space. Alan connects the illustrations and the story perfectly to give readers more insight into the story. He uses lots of color throughout his illustrations and many lines to draws the readers eyes to certain objects. 

Content Area and Grade: Science 2nd Grade
SCI.AAS.2.9- Identify physical features of Earth (e.g., mountain, valley, river, lake).
    Students can identify features on Earth and compare/contrast features to those on Mars. 
A teacher with a student with a visual impairment can have the student use models to feel the features on both Mars and Earth.
