Dragons love tacos is a book about why dragons love tacos. We learn that they love any kind of taco! From chicken or beef to large or small. To make friends with a dragon just bring them some tacos or better yet host a taco party for dragons! So… what does a kid do? Host a taco party! But we learn that as much as they love tacos, dragons hate spicy red salsa. If dragons eat spicy salsa the dragons will have smoke coming from their ears, snort sparks, and have tummy troubles! At the party the dragons come from all over to hang out with this young boy. The boy realizes that the salsa has jalapeno peppers in them which make the salsa hot. All of a sudden the boy starts yelling at the dragons to stop! But it was too late… the dragon’s ears start to smoke, snort sparks, and their tummies were in trouble. To find out what happens to the boys house you’ll have to read the book.

The illustrations by Daniel Salmieri were great! He used lots of color and made each dragon unique. I liked that he made the illustrations appear to be having fun. He uses detail in many of his illustrations by how he draws the details on the dragons and even the wall and floors are covered in dots. Daniel used lines in the background in several of the illustrations maybe to draw attention to the images in front.

I think this would be a fun book! Of course dragons are not real, but takes a student’s imagination far and connects it to a real life item-tacos. In the story, Adam explains the toppings you can put on a taco. At the end he even shows that the dragons are nice and help the boy after they caused so much chaos and damage.

  1. I think this book is so cute, and kids would absolutely love it! I like the idea of having students create a map to show the origins of different spices and herbs; that is a great way to incorporate this book in the classroom!
